am i the only one who has become a lot more hard to please when it comes to other peoples forums, since making my own and joining here, and discussing what makes forums work better, with other admins.

before i was an admin of a forum, i didnt really mind on how a forum was run...i didnt care that some sections of a forum hadnt been posted in for a few months, or whether it wasnt very organised.....as long as people posted in it, and were friendly, i was fine with it. now i find that some things people do on a forum really bugs me, i find myself thinking of how i could improve it if i was admin......but i dont say this out loud of course

Hi all,

This is my fisrt post so please take it easy on me but I do need some honesty from you. I have created a forum that has been running for about a month. Here are the stats,

1,469 Visits

22,278 Pageviews

15.17 Pages/Visit

10.96% Bounce Rate

00:09:48 Avg. Time on Site

37.51% % New Visits

My site is here http://www.southeastsxs.com and it has been up for about 4 weeks. The problem is I seem to be having trouble getting people to convert to members. I wanted to ask the opinion of people that have been doing this for a while. I am a noob at this but really want to make it fly.

Any help would be much appreciated. I am considering collapsing the forums, as you will see I have them broken out for each type of vehicle and I wonder if it is too much and I should collapse them all so the catergories remain just not broken out into vehicles.

What do you think?

i think ive given up hope on two of the forums i admin on.

theres not been a post in weeks, hardly anyone goes there....the domain just expired too-i dont usually pay for it, the other admin does, and i havent seen him in months, the other one just never took off, and i dont think it will. im not sure whether anything can stop the inactivity, and since i started a forum that became popular quickly ive been spending less and less time trying to do things to make the other forums more active.

Is there interest for premium forum+CMS skins?

I've got a high end forum and news cms design that I was going to use for two of my sites, but I don't think I am going to get round to launching...

I've got a high end forum and news cms design that I was going to use for two of my sites, but I don't think I am going to get round to launching their news front ends any time soon - so am considering selling the design as license-able skins.

So wondered - is there a call for premium skins right now? We won't be getting into the skinning business putting out lots of designs, instead will concentrate on making the design we have the best it can be for vB/IPB should there be a call for it. (With attention to SEO, feel, etc)

We'll offer additional services such as brand development to customise the skin further - so for those interested you could have a professional looking site that could hold it's head up high next to any of the current top news sites/blogs.

So - is there a call for a premium product like this? (If you've not seen my forums before - there's an example in my sig, but just bear in mind the forums were designed to compliment the news front end - which obviously isn't live.)

I posted on vB and IPB too - feel free to vote in the polls there if you like, or just add your comments here :)

I'm thinking about buying a preexisting blog related to my own website but I'm not sure how to evaluate the cost?

The site is for sale but it's a make offer deal. Anyhow, it's a small site dedicated to a less popular subject but has a good domain name. It's also at the top of the google search page.

My thoughts is being able to pick it up for cheap and help further develop the site as well as use it for advertising my main website.

Thanks,

Hi,

I'm currently interested in setting up a virtual shop on my site, where posts are rewarded with cash etc...I'd like to make one of the top valued purchases an opportunity to promote with a small banner at my site, as I have a 'Promote Your Blog/Forum/Site' section at my site that is currently dying and that I'd like to reinstall interest in. So basically, how do I offer banner space and then put banners on the homepage?

How do I do this? I'm currently reading about Google adsense, is that the right direction to be looking in? I'm asking fellow administrators this as they will most probably have been through this before

what is the best thing you have ever done to promote your forum?

what worked best for me was making a section for members to post links to their own websites in, if they put a link to my forum, on theirs. it was one of our members idea, and it worked, as a few of our members own forums that get a lot of activity, and it helps us both out.

another one that worked well for me, was to organise a few days where special guests who have a lot of experience in what your forum is about.

i tried those on my new forum last night, and pretty much doubled my activity for today, and bought a new kind of bot that has never visited before :woohoo:

I don't know how large your forums are, but I am having a hard time getting people to join in the first place lol. Having an active community gets you leverage and motivates more and more people to join.
I was thinking that we could join eachothers forums, comment and make a few related posts so it seems that way. It wouldn't take long, and we can exhange too. Awesome right?
