I'm not against using a service online that I can integrate into a web page with html but it would have to be clean and attractive. If someone finds something I can actually use I'll send you $10 on paypal and I'm willing to pay up to $300 for the software with no monthly fees.

Lately I've been really bored of being online. But I'd still like a small website that I can make a bit of money from (or at least enough to cover the website cost).

I sold my vBulletin stuff (well, I will soon), so I'm thinking of blogging. I tried a normal blog, where I just blog about whatever comes into my mind, but that was a huge failure, and extremely boring. Now I'm thinking of like review blogging, where I review new or old products (such as iPad, Computers, Brands, Clothing.. etc.), and also have a small forum where people can discuss my reviews (my reviews will be on Wordpress), and they can also review things, or ask me to review something in particular.

If they do a good review in the forum, maybe I can even copy and paste it to the blog, and just give them credit for it.

Any chance that this could be a success? I've heard of people reviewing phones and stuff, and he gets free phones from major companies to review. So it must be a big hit, is it not?

Before you go public with a brand-new community or forum, what things do you go over and check, or do, before you are prepared for launching? What would you recommend to somebody who has never launched a forum before, so that they don't launch prematurely?

What are some of the worst things you've witnessed to be forgotten before launching?

A common thing I see is not changing the default theme before launching. The admin intends to find a custom or non-default skin, but doesn't do it before launching, which is a mistake, IMO.

I opened a political forum a couple of days ago and it has five members, 70 posts and about 30 threads. Obviously I don't expect it to be bustling with activity this soon after opening, but I'm beginning to consider the long term planning for how to increase membership and posting activity.

I and two other friends from another forum are posting semi-actively, but we're the only ones doing it. My plan was to buy advertising space on another forum, but I'm not sure what genre I would look for or even where to begin. I also thought about buying vBSEO, but I'm still not convinced on its effectiveness.

2010 is going to be the year I push my blog over the top. I'm using several sites to help build ranking and traffic, one of them is squidoo. I just recently joined squidoo, here is my profile page.
Here are the two "lenses" I've made so far..

How to integrate Twitter in your Internet marketing efforts?

Search engine optimization companies to the rescue

Does anyone have some suggestions or tips that I can do to these pages to get more traffic and views from it?
I have a few affiliate links on each, but most the links are to post or categories on the blog.
I don't see a lot of people using these on most webmaster forums, the only one I've seen a lot of people talking about them is on the warrorforums, but it seems most on that site don't have their own hosting so sites like squidoo are prefect for them.

Hopefully at least one or two people on AA have messed with squidoo and can give me some pointers :)

Thanks
-Brandon
I see Hubpages is similar, I think I'll make a few pages on it as well.
*I did make a Hubpage account as well with one post, they have the nofollow attribute in the post is the only difference I see so far*
