CamStudio is a free one I've used in the past.

I just downloaded it to test it out. Going to do a few tests with it and see how it works out for making video tutorials with audio.

This one?
CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software

Does this mean it will accept text and translate to audio?

Don't like the sound of your voice? No problem.

CamStudio can also add high-quality, anti-aliased (no jagged edges) screen captions to your recordings in seconds and with the unique Video Annotation feature you can even personalise your videos by including a webcam movie of yourself "picture-in-picture" over your desktop.

I never heard of MS Sam and I actually went and checked it out, I was hoping for something a bit more sophisticated.

Just a heads up to save people time. The default is a rather small window to record things. The option to make that bigger is under 'Region' and not Options -> video options.

I wasted 5 minutes on that. Except for recording audio (my computers setup issue) it seems to work great!

I've used camstudio in the past.

Lately, i've become fond of Jing | Add visuals to your online conversations because it's free and posts quickly to the web. But it doesn't have all the edit features.

17 Screencasting Tools for Successful Virtual Training

Sitepoint recently did an article about different tools.

I'd actually suggest paying for Camtasia, as its probably the best one I've used (For its price).

I use screen recorder Democreator to create video fro my blog and YouTube channel. I think it's also good to site admin if they want to make some introductory videos for their sites.

Not sure if it's a bit late to reply but I use SnagIt. It's a video recorder software along with the ability to capture images (screenshot) either by a scrolling webpage, certain region, or the region of the window.
