Using IPB, I have an active Vb license, but I don't expect I'll ever use it.

And I used to use a reporting sw called Brio ... tremendous concept, the absolute buggiest software ever in corporate finance, and I've used a fair few. The standard support-line answer to a question was to reimage. Support chieftans had to fly out to our office to restart it, sometimes.

My existent forums are staying on 3.8 for the time being. If by some miracle the vBulletin product (in terms of both product quality and management quality) turns around by 5.0, I may consider that option. Switching to IPB is another option to consider, but I have plenty of time before that becomes necessary.
Thanks for that info, Nick, I've wondered what AA mgmt was thinking. I have noticed a couple of larger commercial sites that haven't even made it to 3.8, I wonder if they are having the same thoughts as you.

That is also how I read all vb corporate communications. They are sunsetting all pre-4 products as fast as they can, in their own minds they have already put a bullet in the lot. As far as they are concerned it's a vb4 world now, and their customers will be those who want and will use the current and future product, as managed by the current company executives. vb used to support the old versions but clearly no more. Like Conan and The Tonight Show there is no going back.

Personally my own forum is smaller and not very customized (not at all by most standards,) and the other is only just launching. I have deliberately avoided customization to date for just this reason. It is easier for me to transition now to vb 4 (well shortly.) I don't much like how IB/vb is managing vb4 but right now I can live with it. Better for me than switching to another provider.

Default Re: Have you stopped using vB?

I am staying with vBulletin unless things get any worse. I have fully upgraded my site to the 4.0.1, How ever I had to fix a few bugs my self. I also only run the forum side of things. Seems the forums are more stable.

The reason I am staying with vBulletin is it would take me a while to recode my site to work with IPB, MyBB or what ever one I go with. I have a lot of custom stuff. I do not know how the other software runs. I know the vb code. I can code stuff for my site now in a short time. Quit frankly I am to lazy to learn the new software.

In my opinion vB forum 4.0.1 is not all that bad. The CMS sucks I am content.

While I understand every ones frustrations, I am running off a leased license so I did not have to buy the product before I paid for it. I had access. This was a big plus for me I got to try before I buy, I knew what I was getting.

On a side note if anyone has a problem with the 4.0 forums I am more then willing to offer a hand to get the bug you are facing knocked out.

Ditto. I can happily support it myself for years if necessary.

JFYI, I learned php on myBB, and have kept half an eye on it ever since - it is a very good free alternative IMO.

It really is an excellent alternative.

But I'm waiting to see what's coming down the pipes in a few months.

If you're referring to a certain ex dveloper then I wouldnt hold you breath. First Im not convinced he is working on forum software, and second, even if he is, I dont believe it will be upto the standard of myBB or even vb 3.x in a few months.

I'm staying with 3.8 for now. I was going to upgrade in March when I have the time, but I'll have to wait and see what it looks like then.

I agree, myBB is what I'll look into next if 4.0 doesn't pan out. It has all the extras that I need for my forum, I just need to get familiar with it.

No, I have not stopped using vB. Nor do I have any plans on changing. However, if I was going to switch I would go with either IPB or PHPBB (if I decided to go back to open source).
As far as what vB4 is as a consumer product or what direction vBulletin is taking as a company and as a whole I couldn't care less. I work hard for my money, when it comes to forums I am strictly involved as a hobby. One of a number of hobbies and with a wife, 3 kids, house, two cars, blah, blah, there is only so much money to float my little adventures so when I decided to jump from an open source software over to a paid software I thought long and hard and didn't regret paying for the 3.x series (at that time it was 3.7.0 I waited for it to go gold ). If it would be now and I was faced with the same decision and the same snap shot of the 4.x series I probably would have stayed put with PHPBB.

While I do indeed have an active vBulletin license, I have made the switch over to IP.Board. In comparison to vB 4.0, the overall interface is much cleaner and... well, more impressive. Having used IP.Board exclusively in the past, the switch was quite painless. In regards to my current thoughts on vBulletin...
