IPB Content DB

Hi Guys & Gals,

Getting back into the forum game and have a query for you.

I've got a website I want to put up using the IPB Content system displaying a breeding lineage type database and am wondering if this something anyone has done before.

I've got the database set up for myself using Microsoft Access at the moment, but I want to be able to set up an online one where multiple people can set up one as well.

It's for cats, so my database is set up with kitten, parents, and attributes such as eye color, fur texture and length and each record is assigned a unique identifier key like for a chip implant.

Thanks for any help or pointers.

Long Time vBulletin Dev Freddie Bingham Let Go by Internet Brands

vBulletin has been going downhill ever since Internet Brands acquired it from Jelsoft. Most of the original team left shortly after the sale. Kier and Mike left to start xenForo and Scott left for Facebook. The only original dev that stayed on was Freddie. Now he is gone after not having his 30 day rolling contract renewed.

Good luck to you Freddie. You along with the other departed devs where the heart and soul of vbulletin for many years and made vBulletin what it was, the leader in the forum software world. I am sure you will land on your feet. Good devs are hard to find.

Can anyone recommend SSD drives for a server config?

Hi -

Can anyone recommend what are the best type of SSD drives to utilize in a server environment? My set up would consist of RAID 5 + 0, consisting of 3 striped drives, mirrored with another 3 striped drives - to allow for speed and maximum 2 drive failover capability.

My questions would be:

What are the best SSD drives in the market (how would I determine this? - as there is way too much information on google, and can't seem to decipher some of it)

Should I focus on a 6 disk setup, or an 8 - as speed is key, and the server will be utilized for taking MySQL queries from about 3 heavy traffic sites.

How many hot swap drives should I keep as spares for either 6 or 8 drive set up? Is there a best practice ratio?

Thanks!

Content Distribution Networks (CDN)

Hello -

Does anyone have any experience with some of the top tier CDN's out there? I have been debating between Akami, Tata, and Peer 1 for one of my growing phpFox groups, as my current server cannot handle the load (dedicated quad core xeon).

I was wondering if geolocation based caching is a suitable option for CDN - rather than dip into the phpFox code and make changes.

Any insight would be appreciated!
