When someone posts an image on your forum, say for example I post this image from one of our forums:

Posted Image

Like so, do the SE's give any credit or pay any notice to the images location on the web?

I know what I am asking may sound insane but it's just a thought I had before.

Thanks!

Idk if this is related to any of this, but maybe if they keep taking images from your forum
use hotlink protection? Like the content of your forum somewhere else will say
No Hotlinking - (Yoursite)

Seen it around, again, if its not related to this, sorry :)

Not related not unless the hotlinked images give some sort of affect on SEO :D

I doubt this is true but its always best to ask :D

Depends on the image, its title (filename) and if its been assigned a proper alt/title tag.

Google/Yahoo Image search can both send pretty large amounts of traffic to your site if an image is properly optimized for it.

One forum member here (I think Kevin) recommended hosting these types of images on a site like photobucket which already gets good rankings though I haven't tested it I'd imagine it works some.

It is an interesting thought, with posting images say in a signature without it linking, would that give any credit do you think?

Since you can not add an "alt" tag to your signature image, I dont think its really going to help very much with the search engines.  The best you can hope for is to rename the image to a targeted keyword.

For image SEO, it can be helpful to think of optimizing images like optimizing a tiny webpage within your page. Finding the relevant images to accompany your written content is the first step here

Image SEO will soon emerge as big boon and recently Google has done an experiment regarding image search simply by uploading an image. It does quite good and does not consider the image name at all. And i'm not sure how the search is done and provided my relevant result. However, searching images using keywords will never fade at all and for that alt tag is somewhat necessary. As above (aaronflench) said, i think we must do optimize in Google using some image optimization techniques by considering as sub page of our website. Of course, Google does give notice on the location of the images and indexing it for image search. No doubt with it. Thanks.
All iz Well :)
