A fluid style means the content (white area) goes to the edge of the page and there is no light blue showing.

Fixed = fixed pixel width, meaning the style appears the same on all monitors and resolutions.
Fluid = width adjusts according to monitor size and resolutions.

That would never be usable because there is a nice gap between the two halves of the browser, but in a screenshot it looks cool to have roughly 3x as much free space as used space. :)
