PHP 5.4 has been released. There are a ton of changes and as they always do they removed some things.

Some of the key new features include: traits, a shortened array syntax, a built-in webserver for testing purposes and more. PHP 5.4.0 significantly improves performance, memory footprint and fixes over 100 bugs.

For users upgrading from PHP 5.3 there is a migration guide available here, detailing the changes between those releases and PHP 5.4.0.

Further details about the PHP 5.4.0 release can be found in the release announcement, and the full list of changes are available in the ChangeLog.

I'm going to upgrade my test server tonight. I always upgrade the test server to the first release and then upgrade live servers at the second point release.

Has anyone upgraded it yet and if you did does it break any of your sites?

I am giving them 7 days to see if they release 5.4.1 first.

Lets hope it takes longer than that. I upgrade at .2 so if .1 is done soon I might be upgrading faster than I thought.

I have it running on my dev server. So far I see no problems with IPB or xenforo. Haven't tested vbulletin yet and don't plan to.

I tested my app and it works flawlessly on PHP 5.4... and consumes 40% less memory than on previous version... so its pretty great.
