My speed is much lower than a lot of yours, but I don't understand why; my internet is blazing fast. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I'm connected wirelessly to the router.

Something must not be right though because Speakeasy's results are different:

Download: 6.94 Mb/s
Upload: 2.40 Mb/s

This is inline with 802.11g which is 56 megabits/second. Your could probably double your download speed with 802.11n. 'N' is  144 megabits per second which is better than Cat-5 ethernet, the most commonly used type of cabling. Of course, 802.11n isn't finalized yet but many devices are on the market using the draft specification which should be approved early next year.

As for fluctuation. Its common with these kinds of tests. Want to see what your true download speed is over time, go to Ubuntu's website and download a distribution and time it. Divide the size of the download by the time spent.

Should be getting around 5MB/s but my modem is really old and crappy. Oh well. I can play without lag online on my PS3.

LOL. I guess numbers don't matter though when it blazes through for me though - in terms of loading. :unhunh:

Those speed tests are just marketing tools anyway. Speakeasy.net is an Internet Service Provider telling you that their service is better than you current one and you should switch. Speedtest.net is owned by a company that optimizes networks and builds software for network diagnostics.
